HTML is a computer language that is used for creating websites. Everybody that is connected to the internet can view these pages. Being somewhat easy to learn with a lot of free information available on the internet, HTML is a powerful tool in webpage creation. The organization that is responsible for its creation W3C is constantly providing upgrades and improvements to meet the growing requirements of internet users and creators.

Hyper Text Markup Language or HTML uses hyperlinks in order to navigate through the webpage and the internet. By clicking the hyperlink you will be taken to a new page. The name hyper suggests that this movement is non-linear i.e. you can move from any location to another with no set order in place. HTML, as the last word of the acronym, suggests is a language and follows syntax rules like any other language.

The following are the primary building blocks of a page:

<!DOCTYPE html> is what defines the document as HTML5

<html> describes the root element of the HTML page

lang is the language in which the page is written

<meta> is the meta description of the page

charset is the character set used

<title> is the title of the page

<body> is the content on the page (article, blog post, etc.)

<h1> is the largest heading visible on the page

<p> is a paragraph on the page
